Mentorship and building relationships are at the heart of Generación’s mission.

In building authentic connections, our volunteers and staff can understand the harsh realities faced by street children on a daily basis. Together we can unite to protect the human rights of children while simultaneously providing the support and resources needed to help them achieve their hopes and dreams.

Children and adolescents living on the streets of Lima are incredibly vulnerable to the harsh realities of poverty. Stripped of their dignity and basic human rights, street children are exposed to the constant threat of starvation, human trafficking, violence, physical abuse, and sexual exploitation. Often homeless or forced to sell wares on the streets to support their family, these children are denied the fundamental rights of education, dignity, self-respect, and the dream of a better future.

Aside from monetary donations, there are many ways to get involved and to support the mission of Generación. We are always looking for mentors, tutors, and onsite volunteers to support our vision of empowering at-risk children, adolescents, and young adults of Lima toward a lifelong journey of personal growth and development where they can dream, achieve, thrive, and write their own stories.

To support the immediate needs of street children, please consider making a donation. As a US non-profit, 100% of our funds are used to respond to the critical humanitarian needs of Lima’s most vulnerable children. We also look for partners who want to continuously support our mission.

Research

Stripped of their dignity and basic human rights, street children are exposed to the constant threat of starvation, human trafficking, violence, physical abuse, and sexual exploitation. In fact, research indicates that sex traffickers often target children and youth with a history of maltreatment, sexual abuse, low self-esteem, and minimal social support.

Generación collaborates with researchers, scholars, and students at San Marcos University to discover solutions to pressing policy issues. Past research has investigated topics ranging from the methodology of working with street children to the impact of establishing meaningful relationships with volunteers and mentors. Generación also collects data pertaining to at-risk individuals living on the streets and at their homes to document abuses committed against them.

To inquire about a possible research opportunity, please contact us with your contact information, name of the university, and an explanation of the kind of research you’d like to complete with Generación.

Advocacy

A vital part of Generación’s mission is to protect and defend the rights of street children. We work tirelessly in our fight to create policies and programs that benefit street children and victims of human trafficking. Our efforts seek to protect those made vulnerable by violence, poverty, and exploitation to ensure they receive the support and protection they deserve.
Generacion also works with the Coalition of Working Children in Latin America to move forward policies that protect children’s dignity and identity. Generacion brings the field-based accounts of needs, that too often do not make the headlines to the attention of policymakers, politicians, journalists, and our global network. By proposing specific actions to meet these needs, our advocacy seeks to make a direct and lifesaving impact on the well-being of children in the streets and victims of human trafficking.

Assistance

Generación works with Lima’s street children, adolescents, and young adults using a model of community-based organizing as a method of working with at-risk groups. Not only do we provide housing, education, skills training, and a loving environment to thrive, but we also address the problems and concerns at a community level. This community-based approach helps us understand the root challenges our children face so we can empower them to actively participate in their destiny to achieve sustainable change.

Partnerships & Policies

Generación strives to create meaningful partnerships with organizations that wish to support their mission. Our current partnership with the Coalition of Working Children in Latin America works to move forward policies that protect children’s dignity and human rights. Generación provides the field-based accounts that often do not make the headlines to the attention of policymakers, politicians, journalists, and our global network. Leveraging our research-based solutions with our field experience our advocacy strives to make a direct and lifesaving impact on the well-being of street children and victims of human trafficking.
